Rajiv Kumar (born on May 25, 1989 in Gidderbaha, Punjab, India), known as Jaani, is an Indian songwriter and composer. Penning the lyrics to his first song, “Soch” while attending university, Jaani had planned to move to Australia to further his education when the song performed by singer Hardy Sandhu and composed by Indian music director B Praak was released in 2012. Collaborating with director and filmmaker Arvindr Khaira, Jaani, Praak and Sandhu produced several hit songs including "Backbone", "Hornn Blow", "Naah", "Yaar Ni Mileya" and "Kya Baat Ayy" with Jaani and Praak releasing Shayar in 2015, featuring popular tracks by Ammy Virk and Jassie Gill and blockbuster hits “Taara”, “Ik Saal” and “Naa Ji Naa”. Winning the Best Lyricist award at the 2015 Mirchi Music Awards for “Mere Kol”, Jaani founded independent label Desi Melodies with Arvindr Khaira soon after, producing award-winning songs and videos by popular Bollywood singers and actors, announcing a partnership with Universal Music Group in 2020. In 2022 Jaani was received several nominations for his work on “Shershaah” (2021) at both the IIFA and Filmfare Awards, winning the Critic’s Award for Album of the Year at the 2022 Mirchi Music Awards.
