Jacob Collier

A multi-instrumentalist prodigy born in London on August 2, 1994, Jacob Collier (born Moriarty) began his violin studies at the Royal Academy of Music, following in the footsteps of his parents, Susan and Derek Collier, both soloists and teachers at the institution. However, he continued to experiment with every instrument within his reach and tried his hand at singing, winning a prize from the Royal Association of Schools of Music. His version of Stevie Wonder's "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing", in which he sang all the parts, became an internet sensation and attracted the attention of Quincy Jones. Since then, Jacob Collier has been performing live, from London's Ronnie Scott's club to the Montreux Festival in 2015. His rendition of "Jerusalem" was the subject of a spot for the Rugby World Cup, while he awaited the recording of his first album, In My Room, made up of original tracks. A collaborator with the Snarky Puppy band, Jacob Collier presented this first handmade effort, recorded in his bedroom, on July 1, 2016, after a fundraising campaign relayed by the likes of Jamie Cullum and Ben Folds. This was followed by a festival tour and, after winning five Grammy Awards, a return to the studio to elaborate the Djesse album cycle, starting with the first volume with the Metropole Orkest in 2018, followed by Djesse, Vol. 2 (2019) and Djesse, Vol. 3 (2020), holder of a 6th Grammy Award. Numerous guests surround him at each stage, including Brandi Carlile, Michael McDonald, Chris Thile, Anoushka Shankar, Camilo, John Legend Shawn Mendes, Stormzy, Chris Martin, Steve Vai, Voces8 and Yelle on Djesse, Vol. 4 (2024), which reaches number 26 in the UK charts.
