James Brandon Lewis

Born in Buffalo, New York in 1983, James Brandon Lewis is a saxophonist and composer. He received his MFA (Master of Fine Arts) from the California Institute of the Arts. He fronts several ensembles and co-founded Heroes Are Gang Leaders, an award-winning music and poetry ensemble. His music blends jazz with other genres including experimental funk. Lewis has received critical praise from critics and was voted Rising Star Tenor Saxophonist by Downbeat magazine's 2020 Critic's Poll. His releases include Divine Travels (2014), Days of FreeMan (2015), Radiant Imprints (with Chad Taylor, 2018), An UnRuly Manifesto (2019) and Live in Willisau (with Chad Taylor, 2020).
