Ja'net DuBois was born and raised in the state of New York. With a penchant for acting, she made her stage debut in 1960 in 'The Long Dream'. She continued to perform in on and off-Broadway productions throughout the '60s, before landing her breakthrough role in the musical 'Golden Boy' starring alongside Sammy Davis Jr. and Billy Daniels. Her first film role came in 1966 as Martha in 'A Man Called Adam'. Her first television role was in 1970 in 'Love of Life' before the role of Willona Woods came to her in 1974. She portrayed Woods for five years in 'Good Times', a career-defining role which led to many more film and TV offers. In 1980 she recorded her debut album, 'Queen of the Highway'. She followed this with 'Again, Ja'Net DuBois' in 1983. From 1999 to 2001 she starred as Florence Avery in 'The PJs', for which she won two Emmy Awards, before landing a role in the 2003 action sequel 'Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle'. She released her third and final album, 'Hidden Treasures', in 2007. In 2020, at the age of 74, Dubois passed away.
