Jannine Weigel

Born on July 30th, 2000 in Steinfurt, Germany, Thai celebrity Jannine “Ploychompoo” Weigel (ญานนีน ภารวี ไวเกล) is today known to fans as a singer-songwriter, actress, director and online personality with a following of millions. First finding herself in the public eye in 2012 after moving to Bangkok and placing third in the TV talent contest Singing Kids, she was accepted into GMM Grammy’s prestigious artist development programme as a result of her performance on the show, and later became a permanent part of their roster. She started an instantly popular YouTube channel the following year, which was initially centred around pop covers in both Central Thai and English languages, but would later go on to include vlogs and gaming videos. In 2015, Weigel released her debut single, “Chak Din Chak Ngo", which enjoyed extensive airplay but did not chart. After releasing a string of singles and her first EP, Genesis, later the same year, she had her first taste of chart success in the form of the 2016 single “Away”, which entered the IW Chart at number three. Following this up with more singles and a second EP, 2017’s Deep End, she inked a deal with Universal Music Singapore in 2018. The next year, she was nominated for the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Southeast Asia Act, and later became the first artist to sign to Universal’s new joint venture with AirAsia, RedRecords. In 2020, she debuted on the label with the English-language single “Passcode”, co-written by GRAMMY nominee Jessie Reyez.
