Fictional British trio Jazz Sabbath was founded in 2020 by keyboardist Adam Wakeman (son of prog legend Rick Wakeman), who was a touring keyboardist and guitarist for Black Sabbath (from 2004 until 2017) and Ozzy Osbourne. Inspired by an impromptu late-night piano performance of Black Sabbath songs in 2013, he conceived a project that would allow him to record jazz versions of Black Sabbath songs under the guise of a late 1960s jazz trio. Jazz Sabbath is comprised of pianist and organist Adam Wakeman (alias Milton Keanes), double bassist Jacque T'fono (alias Jerry Meehan) and drummer Ashley Soan (aka Juan Take). The group’s self-titled debut album was released in 2020, although the press release claimed that these were recently discovered recordings that were taped between 1968 and 1970. The press release also claimed that these were the original versions of songs such as “Evil Woman,” "Rat Salad," "Iron Man,” and others. Among the guests who took part in the sessions – who were also listed on the album under pseudonyms - include Peter Rinaldi, Simon McBride, and Fraser T. Smith (guitars), and Justin Swadling (saxophone). Climbing to Number 25 on Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart, Jazz Sabbath also released a limited-edition mono mix on vinyl including the bonus track "Iron Man” (Live in London 1968). In April 2022, Jazz Sabbath released a sequel to the album titled Jazz Sabbath, Vol. 2, which included tracks such as "Paranoid" and "Black Sabbath." The album reached Number 6 on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart.
