Known for his roles in Jurassic Park, Independence Day, The Fly and many other films, actor Jeff Goldblum (born in Pittsburgh on October 22, 1952) has regularly used his talent as a pianist in film, but it wasn’t until the 2010s—by which time he became as much an enigmatic character as a real person—that he began to show his musical side more fully. He formed the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra with John Mastro in 1994 and performed around Los Angeles. Things got more serious in 2014 when the band booked a residency at the Carlyle Hotel in New York, and the regularity encouraged the group to record their debut album, The Capitol Studio Sessions, in 2018. The album debuted at No. 1 on the jazz charts and showed that music wasn’t just a joke for the often inscrutable performer. I Shouldn't Be Telling You This followed in 2019, which continued the band's affinity for groovy, charming jazz, and featured guest appearances from Fiona Apple, Sharon Van Etten and Miley Cyrus. 2023's EP Plays Well with Others welcomed additional vocals from Kelly Clarkson, Mattiel Brown, Rodrigo Amarante and Freda Payne for another round of swing-inspired covers. Vocalist Haley Reinhart, who also appeared on the debut, returned in 2024 on the double single "Lover"/"Tattoo", which reached No. 80 in the UK sales charts.
