Jehnny Beth is a French actress and indie-rock musician whose projects include the lo-fi duo John & Jehn, the Mercury Prize-nominated band Savages, and a critically-acclaimed solo career. She was born in Poitiers, France, on December 24, 1984, under the name Camille Berthomier. Active in theater and musical projects from a young age, she performed with the group Motel from 2003 to 2006, then formed John & Jehn with fellow musician Nicolas Congé. The pair moved to London, where they recorded their debut album, 2008's John & Jehn, in their bedroom. Time for the Devil followed in 2010. One year later, Jehnny Beth formed the British post-punk band Savages with Gemma Thompson, Ayse Hassan, and Fay Milton. Silence Yourself, Savages 2013 debut, charted at Number 19 in the UK and Number 20 on the American Rock Albums chart. The follow-up effort Adore Life was released in 2016, with both albums earning nominations for the Mercury Prize. Although the band embarked upon an indefinite hiatus in 2017, Jehnny Beth remained active during the following years, starring in the French film An Impossible Love in 2018 and launching her own European television show, Echoes with Jehnny Beth, in 2020. She released her debut album, To Love Is to Live, that same year, working with collaborators like Flood and Atticus Ross. One year later, she teamed up with the frontman of Primal Scream, Bobby Gillespie, to record an album of bittersweet duets entitled Utopian Ashes.
