Born on January 10, 1974 in Masterton, New Zealand, Jermaine Clement is a musician, singer, actor, director and writer best known as one-half of musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords as well as the co-creator and co-writer of vampire mockumentary What We Do in The Shadows (2014), which has become a cult comedy classic that spawned a television series. He began his career in few different projects with fellow New Zealand comedians Taika Waititi and Bret McKenzie. While they all worked together while they were studying film and theater, they performed in a five-man group called So You’re a Man. With Bret McKenzie, he formed another musical duo – Flight of the Conchords – in 1998. He also worked with Taika Waititi – as the Humourbeasts - performing their stage 2004 stage show The Untold Tales of Maui. The show received critical acclaim and won numerous awards for the duo. However, Jermaine Clement would not achieve worldwide recognition until Flight of the Conchords started gaining attention in the UK. Along with several albums (including the Grammy-winning 2007 EP The Distant Future), the duo recorded a series for BBC Radio 2 in 2005, which inspired the Emmy-nominated HBO series Flight of the Conchords, which ran for two seasons (2007, 2009). Jermaine Clement then began acting in motion pictures and on television. He also provided voices for several animated motion pictures including Rio and Rio 2. In 2014, he and longtime friend Taika Waititi created the cult classic film What We Do in the Shadows, which inspired a critically acclaimed television series of the same name in 2019. One of his most high-profile projects was providing the voice of Tamatoa in the animated Disney film Moana. He performed the popular song “Shiny” that is featured on Moana (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).
