Jenő Jandó

Born in Pécs, Hungary on February 1, 1952, Jenö Jandó was a pianist as well as a professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. His musical journey began when he studied piano at a local conservatory before continuing his studies at the Franz Liszt Academy. There, he trained under Katalin Nemes (who was a student of Béla Bartók), Pál Kadosa (who had been trained by Zoltán Kodály) and András Mihaly. He gained widespread attention at the age of 18 when he won third prize at the Beethoven Piano Competition (Vienna). Other career highlights include winning the Hungarian Piano Concours and taking first prize in the chamber music category at the Sydney International Piano Competition (1977). He began playing solo recitals in Europe and recording works by Beethoven, Schubert, and others. Jenö Jandó also collaborated with ensembles and musicians such as violinists Takako Nishizaki and György Pauk, pianists Gyulia Kiss, Szusza Kollár and Ilona Prunyi, cellists Csaba Onczay and Maria Kliegel, the Kodály Quartet, and many others. His discography has more than 150 releases including Liszt: Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major - Fantasia on Hungarian Folk Tunes - Hungarian Rhapsody No. 8 (1978), Beethoven: Piano Sonatas Nos. 17, 21, and 26 (1988), Schubert: Impromptus (Complete) (1990), Schubert: Piano Works for Four Hands, Vol. 1 (1992), Bartók: Rhapsodies Nos. 1 and 2 - Piano Quintet (1995), Bartók: Piano Music, Vol. 1 - Suite for Piano - 7 Sketches - Piano Sonata (2001), J.S. Bach: Keyboard Music (2007), Liszt: Rossini - Soirées Musicales - Schubert - Soirées de Vienne, Nos. 2, 7 and 8 (2014), and many others. Jenő Jandó died on July 4, 2023, at the age of 71.
