Fronted by songwriter Pongki Barata, Jikustik formed in 1996 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Bassist/vocalist Icha, guitar/vocalist Dadi, keyboardist Adhit, and drummer Carlo completed the band's lineup, and Jikustik made its recorded debut with the full-length album Seribu Tahun in 2000. "Seribu Tahun Lamanya" and “Saat Kau Tak Disini” became radio hits, and Barata continued serving as the band's lead singer and chief songwriter for eight years, with Icha and Dadi both performing a handful of songs as lead vocalists, as well. During that time, Jikustik released 2002's Perjalanan Panjang, 2003's Sepanjang Musim, 2004's Pagi, 2005's Kumpulan Terbaik Jikustik, and Siang. After 2008's Malam, Barata left Jikustik's lineup and joined a different pop/rock act, The Dance Company, whose self-titled debut arrived in 2009. While remaining a member of the latter band, he also launched a solo career with 2011's Sunrise. Happy Together, his final album with The Dance Company, followed in 2013. Meanwhile, Jikustik replaced Barata with vocalist Brian Prasetyoadi, who made his official debut with the band on 2011's Kembali Indah. The album's lead single, "Untuk Cinta," also marked one of Icha's final performances with the band, with the bassist officially leaving the lineup in 2012. Bayu joined in his place, and Jikustik unveiled its newest lineup with 2012's Tetap Berjalan. Remaining active through the rest of the decade, Jikustik released albums like 2015's So Sweet, 2019's Bidadari Hidupku, and 2020's Gadis Perekam Hujan.
