Jim O'Rourke was born in Chicago in 1969. Since 1990, this multi-instrumentalist, mainly guitarist, has been active on the experimental rock scene. In groups with Brise-Glace and then Gastr del Sol (1993-1995), in collaboration with the Kronos Quartet or solo, this composer shows great talent for improvisation. His album Terminal Pharmacy (1995), followed by the trilogy Bad Timing (1997), Eureka (1999) and Insignifiance (2001), compensate for their lack of commercial appeal with originality and a constant thirst for discovery. In 1999, Jim O'Rourke answered Sonic Youth's call to join the band, playing bass on several albums until 2005. 2009 saw the release of the instrumental album The Visitor, dedicated to his mentor Derek Bailey, and 2015 saw the release of Simple Songs, the most accessible album of his career. Guest guitarist and producer Jim O'Rourke has taken part in numerous projects, including an album by Norwegian jazz band Fire! in 2011.
