Although he is now a resident of Graz in Austria, the jazz trumpeter Jim Rotondi was born in the small mining town of Butte in Montana, USA. Rotondi is employed as a professor at the University for Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, and in between teaching commitments he has a busy schedule of live engagements in Austria and throughout the world. Prior to his relocation Rotondi was based in New York for 20 years, during which time he recorded ten studio albums as frontman working for a variety of jazz record labels. He is involved with two main musical projects, one a quintet which features the famous vibes player Joe Locke and the other an electric ensemble called Full House in which he is partnered by pianist David Hazeltine. As a sideman Rotondi has featured on over 80 albums and has played with artists such as Ray Charles, Lionel Hampton, Curtis Fuller and George Coleman.
