Joa Band

Joa Band (좋아서 하는 밴드) is a South Korean indie-folk pop band formed in 2007. The band started as a street performance duo when Jo Jun-ho, who won a gold award at the 2007 MBC College Music Festival with Acoustic Brothers, teamed up with his college and clubmate Son Hyeon. They pioneered Korea’s early busking scene, experimenting with the now-iconic guitar and djembe combination. Later, Ahn Bok-jin (accordion) and Hwang Soo-jung (bass) joined, forming a full four-member lineup. The band’s name originated from a spontaneous audience interaction—when asked about their band name during a street performance, Jo Jun-ho replied, “We just do it because we love it,” which the audience found charming, leading to the name Joa Band. Joa Band released their debut EP Newspaper Delivery in 2009 and gained recognition through performances at EBS Space Gonggam, Hello Rookie, and the Grand Mint Festival. Their first full-length album, What If We Are Seasons, came out in 2013, followed by Will We Be There? in 2015. Now consisting of Son Hyeon and Ahn Bok-jin, the band continues to produce heartfelt indie music, with their latest single "Dad" released in December 2024.
