The rock guitarist John Petrucci was born in Long Island, New York on July 12th, 1967 and rose to fame as one of the founding members of Dream Theater, one of America's most critically-acclaimed progressive rock bands. After learning to play the guitar, Petrucci attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston and teamed up with childhood friend and fellow student John Myung. After meeting drummer Mike Portnoy, the three went on to form the band Majesty, who eventually changed their name to become Dream Theater. As far as playing ability is concerned, Petrucci is admired by other guitarists and has been associated with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai as a part of the supergroup G3. His distinctive style betrays influences of Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen and Dave Gilmour whilst Petrucci's instructional guitar video Rock Discipline has influenced many up and coming artists. With two solo albums – 2005’s Suspended Animation and 2020’s Terminal Velocity – to his name and various side projects simultaneously underway, he has doubled up as a member of Portnoy’s Liquid Tension Experiment since 1998, and announced a third eponymous instrumental album with the group in early 2021.
