Johnny Yim

Johnny Yim Lai-hang, a Hong Kong native, was born on August 12, 1977, to a family with a rich musical background. His mother was a musician, and his father was a dance choreographer. He began playing the piano at the age of six and pursued a mathematics major in college while living in Canada. Despite not obtaining a formal music degree, Yim's passion for music led him to self-study, which ultimately paid off when he won the 16th C.A.S.H. Songwriting Quest in 2004 upon returning to Hong Kong. Since then, Yim has worked with numerous prominent artists, such as Alan Tam, Hins Cheung, Gigi Leung, Hacken Lee, AGA, Joyce Cheng, and Alfred Hui, among others. In addition to composing and producing music, Yim is also known for his exceptional arranging skills, which earned him the moniker "Arrangement Knight." In 2017, Yim founded the Gsus Music Ministry to promote Cantonese Christian music. He also served as the music director for TVB's singing competition Stars Academy from 2021 to 2022. Throughout his career, Yim has crafted hundreds of arranged pieces and worked on various albums and soundtracks. Some notable works include Raymond Lam's "If the Time Comes" (2009) - that earned him the Best Arranger award at the Jade Solid Gold Awards, G.E.M's "Sleeping Beauty" (2009), Hins Cheung's "P.S. I Love You" (2011) and "Forever Young" (2014), Alfred Hui's "Youth Anthem" (2012), Linda Chung's "Vaccination" (2012) which earned him the Best Producer award at the Jade Solid Gold Awards, Jinny Ng's "Love is Not Easy" (2014), Hana Kuk's "Forget Myself" (2017), AGA's "Tonight" (2019), Hubert Wu's "Mortals Don't Know About Love" (2020), the soundtrack for Forever Young at Heart (2022) and Hins Cheung's "Imaginary Fairground" (2023). Most recently, Yim worked on AYO Alumni Taiwan's "Hand In Hand" (2024) and "好牧人" (2024) with Gladness Rain Music.
