Since his dazzling debut in 1976 with his band The Modern Lovers, Jonathan Richman has become a cult rocker. This John Cale-produced debut was quickly followed by Rock'N'Roll With the Modern Lovers (1977), from which the hit "Egyptian Reggae" emerged. With or without his (often reorganized) band, the naïve Bostonian immersed in the brutal world of rock, strove to refine the eccentric, touching melodies that punctuated the albums Back In Your Life (1979), Rockin' & Romance (1985) and 1992's magnificent I, Jonathan. Jonathan Richman continues to surprise with country albums(Jonathan Goes Country, 1990), Latino albums (from Jonathan, Te Vas a Emocionar!, 1993, to A Que Venimos Sino a Caer, 2009) and the definitively poetic O Moon, Queen of Night on Earth in 2010. In 1998, he played himself in Mary à tout prix.
