English R&B singer Jorja Smith was born June 11, 1997, in Walsall, England. She began performing as a child and started to write songs when she studied music as a teenager, admitting to an obsession with Amy Winehouse. She debuted with the single “Blue Lights” in 2016 and it became her first Top 40 hit. She performed live with Canadian rapper Drake and in 2017 performed on two tracks on his More Life album. “Get It Together” with Drake and Black Coffee went to Number 9 on Billboard's Hot R&B Songs chart, Number 24 on the UK Official Singles Chart, and Number 45 on Billboard's Hot 100. “On My Mind” with Preditah also went to Number 54 in the UK. Her 2018 release “Let Me Down” with Stormzy reached Number 34 and her solo “I Am” went to Number 9 on the Billboard R&B Chart and peaked at Number 62 in the UK. Her debut album Lost & Found was released in June 2018, topping the UK R&B chart and reaching Number 3 on the regular albums chart. It also went Top 40 in multiple European countries. Her 2019 collaboration with Burna Boy, “Be Honest”, became her most successful single to that point, hitting Number 8 in the UK. In 2021 Jorja Smith would score her eighth Top 10 Indie single in the UK with “Addicted”, which would appear on her third extended play, Be Right Back, later that year. Largely produced by frequent collaborators Joel Compass and Ed Thomas, the EP found the singer experimenting with unusual song structures and delving deep into complex subjects such as womanhood and personal relationships. Just like her studio debut, Be Right Back achieved pole position on the UK R&B charts and garnered extensive critical acclaim. After featuring on singles by FKA Twigs ("Darjeeling"), Beam ("Conscience"), and Calvin Harris ("Somebody Else") in 2022, Jorja Smith returned in 2023 with "Try Me," "Little Things," and "Go Go Go," the first three singles from her sophomore effort Falling or Flying, released later that year.
