Julee Cruise - born on December 1, 1956, in Creston, Iowa – was a Singer, songwriter, musician and actress best known for her musical association with composer Angelo Badalamenti and director David Lynch. She began her musical journey studying the French horn at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa but changed her focus and performed as a singer and actress with the Children's Theater Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Relocating to New York to further her acting and singing career, she portrayed tock icon Janis Joplin in a revue called Beehive. It was there she met musician and composer Angelo Badalamenti. Julee Cruise first came to prominence in 1985 with her performance of “Mysteries of Love” in David Lynch's film Blue Velvet. “Mysteries of Love”was the first official collaboration between Lynch, Badalamenti, and Julee Cruise. She released her debut album, Floating Into the Night, in 1989, which was written and produced by Badalamenti and Lynch. The album featured the hit single “Falling”, which was the vocal version of the theme to Lynch's groundbreaking 1990 television series Twin Peaks. “Falling” became an international hit and charted high in the top 10 in the UK and hit Number 1 in Australia. The album also included favorites such as “Into the Night” and “Rocking Back Inside My Heart”, which Julee Cruise performed in an episode of Twin Peaks. After her cover of Elvis Presley's"Summer Kisses, Winter Tears" for Wim Wenders' film Until the End of the World (1991), Julee Cruise recorded a second solo album entitled The Voice of Love (1993). She then temporarily replaced Cindy Wilson for several tours with The B-52s between 1992 and 1994. She returned to the stage and performed in several musical while also releasing the albums The Art of Being a Girl (2002) and My Secret Life(2011), which was produced by Deee-Lite member DJ Dmitry. During her career, she also collaborated with Moby, Hybrid, Supa DJ Dmitry, Delerium, Handsome Boy Modeling School, and many others. In March 2018, Julee Cruise publicly announced that she was suffering from systemic lupus, which affected her ability to walk and stand. It was also revealed that she was suffering from depression. Julie Cruise committed suicide on June 9, 2022. She was 65 years old.
