Julia Zenko

Julia Zenko is an Argentine singer and actress. She was born Julia Nora Sara Trzenko on October 30, 1958, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Raised in a musical household influenced by her father’s love for tango and her brother’s diverse musical tastes, Julia Zenko began her artistic journey singing in school choirs and playing the guitar. Her professional career began in 1977 when she started performing in pubs and as part of various musical groups, including Amalgama. She gained recognition for her distinctive voice through commercial jingles for major brands in Argentina. In 1983, she released her studio debut, Vital, which included the notable song "Carta de un León a Otro." Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Julia Zenko expanded her repertoire to include socially conscious songs, tango, and other types of Latin American music. In 1995, she won the Konex Award for Best Female Pop and Ballad Singer and performed at a tribute to Carlos Gardel. Her recording of Astor Piazzolla’s opera-tango María de Buenos Aires in 1997 earned her a Grammy nomination. Julia Zenko continued to release successful albums, including Tango por Vos in 2001, which was nominated for a Latin Grammy. She also starred in musicals such as Zorba the Greek and performed internationally. Despite health challenges, including overcoming breast cancer, Julia Zenko soldiered on, releasing the album Vuelvo a Ser Luz in 2020 and participating in the 2023 Argentine production of the Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen.
