Canadian singer-songwriter Julie Doiron first made a name for herself with the group Eric's Trip, before going solo in 1996. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, on June 28, 1972, she learned to play the piano at the age of ten, the saxophone at twelve and the guitar at fifteen. In 1990, at the age of eighteen, while studying photography, she joined her friend Rick White's band, Eric's Trip, which produced four acclaimed albums in the alternative rock sphere until 1996. After setting up her own label, Sappy Records, she released singles under the name Broken Girl, followed by her first personal album under the same title, which revealed her full potential as a songwriter. In 1997, she teamed up with a number of well-known producers, including Howe Gelb and Doug Easley, for the album Loneliest in the Morning, representative of her trademark slowcore style. This album, the only one for the Sub Pop label, was followed by the EP Will You Still Love Me? (1999) and a full-length in collaboration with The Wooden Stars, which won the Juno Award for Best Alternative Album in 2000. Julie Doiron continued on the independent Jagjaguwar label with the album Désormais (2001), sung in French, followed by Heart and Crime (2002). In 2003, she collaborated with Okkervil River on an EP, before signing on her own with Goodnight Nobody (2004) and Woke Myself Up (2007). In 2008, she produced Lost Wisdom with Mount Eerie and Fred Squier, following a reunion with Eric's Trip. The artist who designs and produces her own album covers returned to solo work in 2009 with I Can Wonder When What You Did with Your Day, a cross between folk and rock, between collaborations with Fred Squire on Calm Down It's Monday and Daniel Romano on Daniel, Fred & Julie. Returning in 2012 with the band Julie & the Wrong Guys, she records the album So Many Days, followed by the Julie Doiron Canta en Español series, comprising five volumes released between 2017 and 2022. Meanwhile, she continues her collaboration with Mount Eerie on Lost Wisdom Pt. 2 (2019) and the solo album I Thought of You (2021). In 2022, Julie & Dany was recorded with Dany Placard.
