German conductor born in Greifswald on January 25, 1966, Jürgen Bruns is the first Music Director of the Kammerphilharmonie Berlin, founded in 1991. Trained as a violinist, he studied conducting at the Berlin Hochschule with Rolf Reuter from 1983 to 1988, then in Florence with Gilbert Varga, in Paris with Charles Bruck, and at the École Pierre Monteux in Maine (USA). In 1991, he founded the Kammerphilharmonie Berlin, where he has been Principal Conductor ever since, recording works by Goldschmidt, Laks, Tansman, Fitelberg, Kałowicz, Toch, Bacewicz and Eisler. In addition to this main role, Jürgen Bruns holds positions with the KOS Ljubljana (2008-2015) and the Prussian Chamber Orchestra since 2019, as well as collaborating with other ensembles such as the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig, the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt, the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra or the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he has also recorded. His discography for various labels reflects his attachment to cultivating the repertoire of the post-romantic period at the end of the 19th century and the whole of 20th-century music, particularly the modern era, with the aim of discovering composers who are little performed and recorded. In 2019, he begins recording a cycle of Karl Weigl's six symphonies, opening with Symphony No. 1 and continuing with Symphonies Nos. 4 & 6, followed by Symphony No. 3 in 2025.
