Stockholm, Sweden-based experimental / electroacoustic musician and composer Kali Malone was born in Denver, Colorado in 1994. She studied music in Western Massachusetts before relocating to Stockholm, Sweden at the age of 18 in 2012. Initially focusing on synthesizer and organ, she became interested in electroacoustic music – which used electronic technology to manipulate acoustic sounds – and studied the genre at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. She co-founded record label (and concert series) XKatedral in 2016 and released her debut album, Velocity of Sleep, in 2017, which was followed the next year by Cast of Mind. Kali Malone came to prominence with the release of her third full-length, The Sacrificial Code, in 2019. The album, which consisted of songs composed on a pipe organ – was a critical success and won the Album of the Year Award from indie distributor Boomkat. Her next release was 2022’s Living Torch, which was a work commissioned by the Groupe de Recherches Musicales. In 2023, Kali Malone released the album Does Spring Hide Its Joy, which found her collaborating with British cellist Lucy Railton and Sunn O))) guitarist Stephen O’Malley, who she would marry that year. In February 2024, she released the critically acclaimed album All Life Long, which found her unique organ drone music embellished by guest contributors Anima Brass and the Macadam Ensemble. The album reached number 26 on the UK Independent Albums chart.
