Kali Uchis is a Colombian-American singer, songwriter, and producer who has garnered attention for her unique blend of soulful R&B, Latin pop, and hip-hop. Born Karly-Marina Loaiza on July 17, 1994, in Alexandria, Virginia, she was raised by her Colombian parents and spent much of her childhood traveling back and forth between the United States and Colombia. She began writing and recording music in her early teens, inspired by artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Amy Winehouse. Her first mixtape, Drunken Babble, was released in 2012 and quickly caught the attention of music industry insiders such as rapper Snoop Dogg, who featured her in the song "On Edge" from his 2014 mixtape That's My Work 3. In 2015, Kali Uchis issued her debut EP, Por Vida, which featured production from Kaytranada, Diplo, BadBadNotGood, and Tyler, the Creator. Over the next few years, she toured as the opening act for Lana del Rey's LA to the Moon Tour and began teasing her upcoming studio debut through the singles "Tyrant" with Jorja Smith, "Nuestro Planeta" with Reykon, and "After the Storm" featuring Tyler, the Creator and G-Funk legend Bootsy Collins. Isolation finally dropped in April 2018 and met with both critical and commercial success, reaching Number 32 on the Billboard 200 and Number 17 on the US R&B charts. Only a year later, Kali Uchis won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording for her participation in the Kaytranada single, "10%." Following the release of the EP To Feel Alive in 2020, she returned later that year with Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios), her first album sung predominantly in Spanish. Driven forward by the viral single "Telepatía," the album earned the singer her first Number 1 record on the US Top Latin Albums chart and was followed by 2023's Red Moon in Venus, which peaked at Number 4 on the Billboard 200 and featured guest spots by Omar Apollo, Don Toliver, and Summer Walker. Kali Uchis released her fourth album Orquídeas in January 2024, which boasted guest spots from Peso Pluma, El Alfa, JT from City Girls, Karol G, and Rauw Alejandro. The LP spawned three singles: the El Alfa and JT-assisted "Muñekita," "Te Mata," and "Labios Mordidos" with Karol G.
