Kamaal Williams

A diverse musician whose releases include jazz-funk albums and electronic projects, Kamaal Williams was born Henry Williams in Peckham, London. He became a multi-instrumentalist during his teenage years and converted to Islam in 2011, adopting the name Kamaal. Under the alias of "Henry Wu," he began creating a hybrid of jazz, house, and electronic music in 2012, building his audience with albums like Stir Fry Beats and Natural Complexion. In 2016, he teamed up with drummer Yussef Dayes to form the jazz-funk duo Yussef Kamaal. Although the band split up after releasing the debut album Black Focus, Williams continued recording music on his own, issuing a string of Henry Wu releases while also recording solo albums like 2018's The Return and 2020's Wu Hen.
