Welsh electro-pop artist Kelly Lee Owens was born on 24 August 1988 in Rhuddlan. Growing up, she learned drums and the bass guitar, and avidly put herself in Wales’s indie music scene. In 2009 she left behind a job as a nurse at the behest of her parents who knew of her dreams to be a part of the music world. After a move to London, she would learn electronic production from Daniel Avery and James Greenwood, with Daniel Avery allowing her to collaborate on his album Drone Logic. She channelled what she learned into her 2017 debut album, Kelly Lee Owens, a collection of dreamy techno-pop. The album track “Arthur” (a song for her idol, Arthur Russell) caught the ears of Alexander McQueen, who gave her a profile boost when he used it at one of his runway shows. She earned some big-name fans, remixing and/or collaborating with such notable figures as Björk, John Cale, and St. Vincent. Her sophomore LP, Inner Song, dropped in 2020. In 2024, she took cues from trance for her third album Dreamstate, which featured a co-production credit from the Chemical Brothers on "Ballad (In the End)."
