Kenya Grace Johnson is a singer-songwriter and producer hailing from Southampton, England. Born in South Africa and later settling in the UK, her passion for music was evident early on. At a young age, a second-hand Yamaha keyboard became her first muse, leading her to share her vocal talents in primary school. Initially drawn to musical theatre, her tastes evolved to embrace dance music, with dubstep capturing her attention. This passion for music led her to the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. Initially enrolled in history and English literature, she pivoted to music and graduated in 2019 with a degree in songwriting and creative artistry. Later that year, she made her official debut with the single "Obsessed," followed by "Tell Me Why"—a track written amidst personal turmoil. Her collaboration with Willow Kayne secured them a spot in the Top 21 of ISawItFirst, further catapulting her to fame. Despite challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, she continued honing her craft with tracks such as "Talk" (2020), written during lockdown, and other hits like the 2022 singles "Oranges," "Someone Else," and "Venus." However, it was the 2023 drum and bass track "Strangers" that truly made her a global phenomenon. Entirely composed and produced in her bedroom, the song went viral on social media, amassing staggering view counts and reaching number 1 in the United Kingdom. Its subsequent remix and tracks like "Only in My Mind," "Paris," and "It's Not Fair" helped further raise her profile. The After Taste, her debut EP, arrived in March 2024 and peaked at number 7 on the US dance charts.
