Kerispatih

The Indonesian pop band Kerispatih formed in Jakarta in April 2003. The group's five original members — guitarist Arief Nurdiansyah Morada, drummer Antonius Suryo Sularjo Wahyu Nugroho Kusumo, bassist Andika Putrasahadewa, vocalist Hendra Samuel Simorangkir, and keyboardist Doadibadai Hollo — initially focused on traditional Indonesian music, a sound that was reflected on Kerispatih's 2004 debut, Gulalikustik. After signing with the label Nagaswara, the band began pursuing a more mainstream-minded pop sound dominated by ballads and mid-tempo numbers. 2005's platinum-selling Kejujuran Hati turned Kerispatih into stars in their homeland, with "Kejujuran Hati," "Cinta Putih," and "Lagu Rindu" all receiving heavy airplay on Indonesian radio. Kenyataan Perasaan followed in 2007 and became the group's second platinum-certified release. That same year, Kerispatih also appeared on Rinduku Padamu, a popular compilation album featuring songs written by Indonesia's sixth president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. The band's fourth album, Tak Lekang Oleh Waktu, was released in 2008, featuring another song written by President Yudhyono. It, too, went platinum. Following the release of 2009's Semua Tentang Cinta, Hendra Samuel Simorangkir was convicted of drug possession and subsequently fired from the group. Fandy Santoso, a vocalist who had previously participated in Indonesian Idol's 2007 season, was recruited as the band's new frontman. This revised version of Kerispatih released Melekat di Jiwa in 2011 and continued to tour frequently throughout the rest of the decade, highlighting their strength as a live act with the 2015 album Delapan (Acoustic Live).
