Influenced by the trailblazing Memphis rap of his birthplace as much as '00s trap figureheads like Gucci Mane, rapper, and songwriter Markeyvius LaShun Cathey - born on August 3, 1997, in Memphis, Tennessee - is better-known professionally as Key Glock. Following a tumultuous childhood, he was signed to his cousin Young Dolph's label Paper Route Empire in 2017 and gained respect for his acclaimed mixtapes including Glock Season (2017), Glock Bond (2018), and Glockoma (2018). In 2019, he released Dum and Dummer, a collaboration with Young Dolph, which climbed to Number 8 on the Billboard 200. In January 2020, Key Glock dropped his debut studio album, Yellow Tape - featuring production from Bandplay, LDG Beats, and Sledgren, among others - which went to Number 14 on the Billboard 200. After churning out a string of mixtapes - including 2020's Son of a Gun - Key Glock unleashed his second studio album, Yellow Tape 2, in 2021, along with a second collaboration with Young Dolph, Dum and Dummer 2, that same year. On November 17, 2021, Young Dolph was shot and killed in Memphis, Tennessee. Key Glock paid tribute to his fallen cousin in 2022 when he released the song “Proud,” which was featured on the tribute album Long Live Young Dolph. In February 2023, he returned with his third album, Glockoma 2, which was a sequel to his popular 2018 mixtape.
