Jeanine Ntiruhwama aka Khadja Nin was born on June 27, 1959 in Burundi. She was discovered by the general public thanks to her performance of the song"Sambolera" (1996). Although she began making music in the 1970s, it wasn't until 1992 that she released her first album, produced and composed by Nicolas Fiszman, a bassist from the Belgian jazz scene known for his duet with Philip Catherine. Her next album, Ya Pili, was released in 1994. It included the track "Sambolera", promoted two years later by the TF1 television channel, which made it its summer hit. Thanks to this large-scale promotion, sales of the album reached 200,000 copies. In 1998, Khadja Nin released the album Ya, evoking the wounds and suffering of the African continent.
