Kim Chang-wan

Kim Chang Wan (born February 22, 1954) is a prominent South Korean singer, actor, writer, and musician. He first rose to fame as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the legendary band Sanulrim (산울림), formed with his brothers Kim Chang-hoon and Kim Chang-ik in the mid-1970s. After graduating from Seoul National University in 1975 with a degree in Agricultural Studies, he and his brothers embarked on their professional music career, changing their band’s name to Sanulrim, which means "Mountain Echo." Their debut album What, Already? (1977) brought a fresh sound to the Korean music scene, blending psychedelic rock and hard rock, and revitalizing the industry. Sanulrim remained influential throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, releasing over 10 albums. After the tragic death of drummer Kim Chang-ik in a 2008 traffic accident, the band disbanded. Kim Chang Wan went on to form the Kim Chang-wan Band and explored a successful acting career, appearing in hit TV dramas such as Coffee Prince and My Love from the Star. He also starred in the 2013 thriller Doctor. A multitalented artist, Kim has authored books, composed soundtracks, and continued to release music, including a 2023 album titled I'm an Earthling.
