Kim Petras

Kim Petras (born on August 27, 1992 in Cologne) is a German, LA-based singer-songwriter and model, whose irresistible amalgamation of electro-pop and EDM earned her the nickname of “the new princess of pop.” Heavily influenced by 1980s Italo disco and early 2000s pop, she started releasing music under her own name in 2008. In 2011, she released her first EP, One Piece of Tape via Bionic Ballroom. She spent the next few years honing her craft and fine-tuning her sound with the help of several top-tier producers, a process that culminated with the release of the hit single “I Don’t Want It at All” in 2017. Featuring an infectious electro groove and summery vibes, the track went viral on streaming platforms and received extensive media coverage. After making a guest appearance on Charli XCX’s Pop 2 mixtape, she released the singles “Faded” and “Heart to Break,” and the Halloween-themed Turn Off the Light, Vol. 1 in 2018. Following the trio of singles “1,2,3 Dayz Up,” “If U Think About Me,” and “Homework,” she released her official studio debut, Clarity, in 2019 to great critical acclaim. The album, which spawned the singles “All I Do Is Cry” and “Sweet Spot,” was ranked 4th on the New York Times’ Best Albums of that year and 7th on Billboard’s US Heatseekers Album chart. A subsequent tour throughout the US and Europe followed, after which she released Turn Off the Light, her sophomore effort. In 2020, the dance floor-ready “Malibu” saw the light of day, marking the start of a new chapter in the German singer’s career. 2021 ushered in another new stage in her career, with a signing to Republic Records and a surprise EP, Slut Pop, arriving on the label in 2022. Then in 2023, she struck gold with "Unholy," a collaborative single with Sam Smith that zoomed to the top of the charts in multiple countries worldwide, becoming her first taste of the US Billboard Hot 100. The song won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance in 2023, making Kim Petras the first openly transgender artist to receive the award and the second transgender woman to win a Grammy following Wendy Carlos in 1970. In 2023, Kim Petras teamed up with Nicki Minaj for the "Alone" single, which cracked the US Billboard Hot 100.
