Whether it's a trio like Rush, or sophisticated metal like Dream Theater, King's X can't be reduced to these facile comparisons. King's X have a very personal way of injecting funk and symphonic elements into their heavy metal, with Gretchen Goes to Nebraska (1989) being the best example of their rich output. Without ever really achieving mainstream status, King's X have pursued a sincere career since 1980, as evidenced once again by their 2008 production XV.
