Composed of Fizzle (Christoph Erkes), FIJI KRIS (Christian Yun-Song Meyerholz), and ° awhodat ° (Nicole Schettler), KitschKrieg is a Berlin-based producing powerhouse, known for reshaping the German hip-hop landscape with their unorthodox, forward-thinking ethos. A team of seasoned studio mavericks, they rose to fame for their collaborations with German dancehall artist Trettmann, with whom they collaborated on their self-titled debut single in 2016. The relationship proved fruitful, as they went on to produce the MC’s albums #DIY (2017) and Trettmann (2019). They’ve also helped launch Joey Bargeld’s career, producing the EPs 1 (2017), 1.1 (2018), and 1.11 (2018), and worked with trapper Haiyti on Montenegro Zero (2018), her critically-acclaimed sophomore effort. That same year, they had their first Number 1 single with “Standard,” an urbano-infused track featuring Gringo, Gzuz, Trettmann, and Ufo361. More success followed with “5 Minuten,” a joint venture with Cro, AnnenMayKantereit, and longtime collaborator Trettmann that made it to the Top 10 on the German Singles Chart and earned them a Pop Culture Award in the category of Best Producer. Preceded by the singles “Oh Junge” and “International Criminal,” which climbed to Number 6 on Germany’s Singles Charts, their eponymous full-length saw the light of day in 2020, featuring an eclectic blend of trap, dancehall, and urban pop music.
