Knife Party are an Australian EDM duo formed as a side project by two of the three members of the drum & bass band Pendulum. The success of the band has been such that it is now the primary musical project of the two founding members Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen. McGrillen and Swire formed the band in 2011 as an experimental project alongside their work with Pendulum. When the name of the band was initially publicised it was criticised because some commentators suggested the name implied the band were supporting knife crime. Swire answered the critics with typical Australian directness "we're not advocating any type of knife-related crime any more than Swedish House Mafia were advocating organised crime". The name stayed and Knife Party have continued to make inroads into the EDM market with a series of critically acclaimed singles and EPs. The duo's highest charting single was a collaboration with Swedish House Mafia called 'Antidote' which rose to number four in the UK charts in 2011. Their 2014 album 'Abandon Ship' fared even better and went to number two in the US Dance Chart.
