Kuroyume

Kuroyume are a renowned Japanese rock band that emerged in the early 1990s, blending alternative rock and gothic influences with dark, introspective lyrics. Formed in 1991 by vocalist Kiyoharu and guitarist Hitoki, Kuroyume became one of the pioneering acts in Japan’s vibrant visual kei movement, a subculture known for its dramatic fashion and theatrical performances. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Kuroyume grew a loyal following, earning a reputation for their electrifying live shows and unique sound. Notable albums include 1994 major label debut album Mayoeru Yuritachi, which went to number three in Japan, 1995 chart-topper Feminism and 2011's Headache and Dub Reel Inch, which went to number two. The band's lineup has undergone several changes over the years, with a hiatus announced in 1999 and the group eventually disbanding ten years later. In 2010, Kiyoharu and Hitoki revived Kuroyume, remaining active until 2015 before calling it a day in 2016. The band, who celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2024, found several of their tracks head back into the Japanese charts that year.
