A Japanese punk-rock band from Nishinomiya, Hyōgo Prefecture, Kyuso Nekokami is best known for singles like "Mega Shake It!," "Happy Ponkotsu," and "Galaxy," all of which reached the Top 20 during the 2010s. Vocalist/guitarist Seiya Yamasaki, keyboardist Shinnosuke Yokota, guitarist Kazuma Okazawa, bassist Hagane-maru, and drummer Taisuke Sogō formed the group in 2009, with Takurō Kawakubo replacing Hagane-maru two years later. Jūdai de Dashitakatta, the band's indie debut, was released in March 2012 and enjoyed minor success in Japan, where it hit Number 194 on the Oricon chart. Daiji na Oshirase followed in December 2012 and hit Number 201. Kyuso Nekokami enjoyed its first taste of Top 20 success in 2013, when the EP We Are Indies Band!! hit Number 19 in Japan. Two additional EPs followed, with Change the World hitting Number 15 in June 2014 and Happy Ponkotsu Land reaching Number 7 in January 2015. Happy Ponkotsu Land featured the track "Galaxy," which reached Number 19 on Billboard's Hot Japan Singles chart. 2015 proved be to a pivotal year for the band, with both "Mega Shake It!" and "Happy Ponkotsu" peaking at Number 13 on the Oricon Singles Chart. Additionally, the album Jinsei wa Madamada Tsuzuku was released that October and became the group's most successful album to date, climbing to Number 4 in Japan. In 2023, the hit song "私飽きぬ私" climbed to Number 19 on the Top 20 Radio - Japan chart, with the album 私飽きぬ私 debuting at Number 25 on Japan's Top 100 Albums chart one year later.
