La T y La M, the Argentine cumbia duo formed by Tobías Medrano and Matías Rapen, emerged in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic when the two met in Florencio Varela, Buenos Aires. Initially gaining attention with their cumbia version of Nio García and Flow La Movie’s hit “AM,” which went viral after being sung by the Argentine national soccer team during the 2021 Copa América celebrations, the duo quickly rose to fame. They followed this success with hits like “Messirve 3” and their mix of Daddy Yankee hits, DY Mix. In 2022, they showcased their versatility with releases such as “Hoy Quiero Verte” and live reimaginations of tracks from their album Le Mandamos Cumbia Perro. By 2023, their repertoire included collaborations with artists like Rusherking, Luck Ra, and Duki, alongside sold-out performances at the Gran Rex Theatre. Their 2024 releases, including Messirve Mix 8, “Cumbia Sad,” and the live album Luna Park (En Vivo), solidified their innovative approach to cumbia, blending traditional and modern sounds.
