Larry Levan. January 1977, New York, the Henry Street Club opens its doors on a chilly day. Barely two years after opening, and a growing success, the Henry Street becomes Paradise Garage. Quite a story... Larry Levan is there, and he's seen it all. For several years now, he's been listening to his elders and learning, immersing himself in the atmosphere, realizing that warm, sensual music attracts crowds, uniting them in a magical trance. Larry, the club's resident DJ, mixes disco and ambient sounds, becomes sound engineer and lighting designer, and truly communicates with his audience, who realize how lucky they are. People come to hear Larry Levan from all over the world! He invented a new sound, future house garage (the name of the club!), a way of playing that provoked the most intense emotions, the beginnings of techno music. DJs and clubs the world over sought to understand and reproduce Levan's unrivalled work. After the sad closure of the Paradise Garage in 1987 and a few years spent in New York, Larry emigrated to the UK to work as a sound engineer for the Ministry of Sound.
