Born Laufey Lín Jónsdóttir on 23 April 1999 in Reykjavík, Iceland to an Icelandic father and Chinese mother, the jazz-influenced bedroom popstar known as Laufey moved between her homeland and the US during her childhood, which ultimately played a part in shaping her musical style. She initially set her sights on a classical path, performing as a cello soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra at just 15, before expanding her remit to appear on the 2014 season of Ísland Got Talent and wowing as a finalist. She also finished as a semi-finalist on The Voice Iceland the following year. Her debut single, "Street by Street," emerged in 2020 and shot to number one on Icelandic radio. Spurred on by the success of the single, in 2021 she dropped her debut EP, Typical of Me, showcasing her self-described "modern jazz" sound that coincided with a performance at the London Jazz Festival that same year. A career-boosting collaboration with London's Philharmonia Orchestra on "Let You Break My Heart Again" saw the light in 2021 followed by Laufey's lauded debut full-length, Everything I Know About Love, which went to number 15 in Iceland. Her second studio album Bewitched was released in September 2023 via AWAL and charted in several countries worldwide, including the US where it scaled the Billboard Top 40.
