Laura Canoura

Laura Canoura Sande is a celebrated singer and composer known for her contributions to popular Uruguayan music. She was born on January 2, 1957, in Montevideo, Uruguay. She began her artistic journey studying theater and music, eventually forming the influential musical group Rumbo in 1979 alongside musicians Mauricio Ubal, Gonzalo Moreira, and others. The group quickly gained prominence with their debut album Para abrir la noche in 1980, followed by Sosteniendo la pared in 1982 and Otro tiempo in 1985. That year, Laura Canoura began her solo career with the album Esa Tristeza, produced by Jaime Roos. The band Rumbo disbanded in 1987, allowing Laura Canoura to focus fully on her solo endeavors. Her solo work was marked by the success of Esa Tristeza, leading to a series of successful performances throughout Uruguay. In 1991, she released her second solo album, Puedes OĆ­rme (1991), which earned her a gold record. The 1990s saw Canoura exploring new artistic directions, including a collaboration with Hugo Fattoruso on the album Locas Pasiones (1994) and her portrayal of Edith Piaf in a musical theater production. She continued releasing notable albums such as Interior (1996), Pasajeros Permanentes (1998), and Mujeres Como Yo (2001). During the following decades, she began exploring tango music on the albums Esencia / Dos (2005), Canoura canta el tango (2007), and Tango (2015).
