Laurent Garnier

Laurent Garnier, born on February 1, 1966, in Boulogne-Billancourt, Paris, is a DJ and music producer best known for his work in the European electronic music scene. With a career spanning over three decades, Garnier, also known as Choice, began his journey in the mid-1980s, initially working as a waiter at the French Embassy in London. His passion for music led him to DJ alongside DJ Nelson at a French club before moving to Manchester in 1986. There, he discovered the Haçienda and the burgeoning UK house scene. He was deeply influenced by Chicago house and Detroit techno and began mixing under the pseudonym DJ Pedro. After a brief return to France for military service and a sojourn in New York where he met Frankie Knuckles, Laurent Garnier focused on the French electronic scene in the early 1990s. He ran the Wake Up parties at Rex Club in Paris and performed at various clubs and rave parties. He made a mark as a recording artist with a handful of releases for the FNAC label, including the 1991 single "French Connection" and the 1993 EP A Bout de Souffle, before establishing his own label, F Communications, with Eric Morand. His debut album Shot in the Dark (1995) reached Number 87 on the UK charts and was followed by 30 (1997), which featured the hit single "Crispy Bacon." He continued to cement his status over the following years with albums such as Unreasonable Behaviour (2000), My Excess Luggage (2003), The Cloud Making Machine (2005), Tales of a Kleptomaniac (2009), and La Home Box (2015). Following an unlikely collaborative album with garage rock band The Limiñanas titled De Película (2021), Laurent Garnier resumed his solo efforts in 2023 with 33 tours et puis s'en vont, which climbed to Number 45 on the French Top 200.
