Malca, whose real name is Lionel Malca, was born in Paris in 1989 to parents from Casablanca. At the age of 4, he returned to live in the White City, where he developed a passion for music. As a shy teenager, he founded the rock group Twenty Dumbos and was performing on stage by the age of 17. After graduating from high school, he moved to Paris, where he studied journalism and then music, performing at the Olympia at the age of 22. With his childhood friend Mohamed Sqalli, he created a musical universe inspired by their identity as "nerds from Casablanca with a wheat heart". In 2015, he unveiled"She Gets Too High", a striking electro-funk hit. His style fuses electronic music, raï, chaâbi and Afro-American influences. In 2023,"Ya Layli " fully illustrates this hybrid aesthetic. Proud of his roots, Malca celebrates Casablanca through bold, sincere and resolutely modern music.
