Lee Hazlewood

Lee Hazlewood is best remembered as the songwriter and producer whose collaborations with Nancy Sinatra produced a string of hits - including one of the most iconic records of the 1960s, These Boots Are Made For Walking. But his innovative productions and experiments with echo also fascinated later generations. Primal Scream, Nick Cave, Einsturzende Neubauten, Beck, Tindersticks and Megadeth are among the alternative acts who've covered Hazlewood songs and helped keep his legend alive. He grew up listening to country music, studied to be a doctor and served with the US Army in the Korean War. On leaving the army he became a DJ before teaming up with rock guitarist Duane Eddy, producing hit singles Peter Gunn and Rebel Rouser and writing the hit single The Fool for Sanford Clark. He teamed up with Nancy Sinatra in 1966 and his gruff duets with her included popular hits Some Velvet Morning and Jackson. He also worked with Gram Parsons and continued to write, releasing his final album Cake Or Death in 2006, when already dying of renal cancer.
