Lee Soo-young is a South Korean ballad singer. She was born Lee Ji-yeon on April 12, 1979, in South Korea. She began her music career in 1999 with the release of her studio debut, I Believe, which quickly established her as a rising star in the Korean music scene. I Believe peaked at number 8 on the Korean charts. She followed this success with the release of the 2001 album Never Again. Also in 2001, she performed the Korean version of the popular song "Suteki Da Ne" from Final Fantasy X, titled "Eolmana Joheulkka." This song raised her profile considerably, becoming a popular recording for Korean fans of the franchise as well as global gaming enthusiasts. Throughout the early 2000s, Lee Soo-young became one of South Korea's best-selling artists. She released a series of successful albums, including My Stay In Sendai (2002) and This Time (2003). In 2004, her album The Colors of My Life topped the charts. Lee Soo-young continued her success with the 2006 album Grace, which also reached number 1 and was later released as a limited edition. Over the following years, Lee Soo-young has been recognized with numerous awards, including Best Ballad Performance at the 2002 Mnet Asian Music Awards and the prestigious Daesang at both the 2003 MBC Top 10 Gayo Festival and the 2004 Golden Disk Awards. Sory, her first collection of original songs in 13 years, came out in 2022 and peaked at number 78 on the Korean charts.
