Leessang are a South Korean hip-hop duo who formed in 2002 and are comprised of vocalists Kang Hee-gun and Gil Seong-joon. Their most successful single to date has been the chart-topping 'Turn Off the TV', its strong performance in the charts is impressive, particularly when taking into account the song was banned by all the major TV and radio networks due to its lyrical content. In the world of South Korean music Leessang are on the periphery of the mainstream K-pop business. The idol culture is so pervasive and dominant Leessang are often cited as being a physically unappealing duo and as such are considered outsiders. None of this seemed to have an adverse effect on the duo's success who, after their 2005 breakthrough album 'Library of Soul' enjoyed a string of successful albums and numerous hit singles. They have been credited with bringing the world of rap and hip-hop into the limelight in South Korea and making it a commercially viable genre. After spending 15 years performing together Hee-gun and Seong-joon decided to call time on the Leessang project in 2017 and have both embarked on separate musical careers.
