Lesley Gore is best known for the teenage pop hit "It's My Party", which reached number one worldwide in 1963, but less so for other songs of the same ilk, the feminist classic "You Don't Own Me", and the rest of her career, which includes a dozen albums. The latest of these, Ever Since, was released in 2005. The New York singer born in 1946 outlived her early successes produced by Quincy Jones, and led a career divided between TV appearances, a role in the Batman series (1967) and composing tracks for the 1980 film Fame . She died of lung cancer on February 16, 2015, at the age of 68.
