Chinese-born Australian singer Li Xiaoyu (also known as Michelle Li), was born on March 16, 1987, in Lanzhou, Gansu, China, relocating to Melbourne, Australia with her mother when she was 15 years old. Inheriting her love of music from her father, Li grew up listening to Leehom Wang and Jay Chow and teaching herself the piano and the guitar. In 2006, she was accepted into the University of Melbourne but took a break to return home and care for her father who had become seriously ill. It was during this period that she wrote the song "爸爸给的坚强 (Dad's Strength)”, which she performed on the Chinese television singing contest Super Girl in 2009. After being awarded runner-up, Li released her debut studio album, 你看到的我是蓝色的 (ALL BLUE), the following year, earning her the Most Popular Female Newcomer award on various Chinese music-ranking lists throughout 2010. In 2012, Li released her first EP, 房间 1501 (Room 1501), followed by her second album, 正常人 in October 2015 and EP 三十禁, in 2019, returning in 2021 under the moniker LKY with Nostalgia. In 2023, sentimental fan favourite, "爸爸给的坚强 (Dad's Strength)”, experienced a resurgence in popularity, reaching number 58 on the Chinese charts.
