Libera

All-boy choir Libera was set up by Robert Prizeman – born in London, UK on February 28, 1952 – who studied organ and harpsichord before becoming the choirmaster at St. Philip's Church in Norbury, South London in 1970. The original incarnation of Libera first formed in the mid-'80s and released their first commercial recording, "Sing Forever" in 1987, with an album of the same name following in 1988, released as St Philip's Choir. The title track was used as the first BBC Children in Need telethon anthem. During the 1990s, the choir released music both under the name Angel Voices and St Philip's Boy Choir, with their second album New Day (1990) falling under the former and their third album, Angel Voices (1992) falling under the latter. Libera has produced a prolific repertoire of original music as well as making various contributions to film soundtracks including Romeo + Juliet (1996), The Merchant of Venice (2005), Hannibal (2001) and 2012 anime From the New World. Libera has provided choral backing to a raft of well-known artists, including Aled Jones, Björk, Luciano Pavarotti, Hayley Westenra, Peter Skellern, José Carreras, Neil Diamond, Cliff Richard, and Michael Crawford. 2019 saw the release of the Christmas Carols with Libera album and in 2021 they released If, both credited to Libera.
