Popular singer Liliane De Smedt was born on July 10 in Schaerbeek, Belgium. A singing contest on Radio Luxembourg, which she won in 1953, launched her career under the name Lily Vincent. Signed to RCA records, Lily released many singles and albums of chanson, waltz and tango, mostly covers of French songs, notably on the album Tango Immortel (1970). Her hits include Édith Piaf's "La Vie en rose ", Henri Salvador's "Le Loup, la biche et le chevalier", and Berthe Sylva's version of "Les Roses blanches", written in 1926. She toured extensively with Sasha Distel and Luis Mariano, until the late 1970s. Lily Vincent died in La Hulpe on July 10, 2009.
